Lines and Charts and Graphs, Oh My
A data warehouse gives you the tools you need to manage big data and business intelligence
Data Warehousing is a powerful method of storing business data so that it can be reported on easily. At Business Edge Services & Technologies,
we've built dozens of data warehouses for companies of all sizes in multiple vertical markets. A data warehouse is used to store
historical data, provide business intelligence, and expose data in multidimensional structures that can hook up to a variety of reporting
tools like Crystal Reports, Power Pivot and even Microsoft Excel.
To build a data warehouse, first we create a new SQL database in OLAP format. This database is separate from your live
transactional databases, and the tables are organized into measures and dimensions. Then, using OLAP cubes, we build
multidimensional structures that pull data from the OLAP database and expose it in your reporting software. For clients
that use Excel, we can hook up the cube directly to Excel so that users are using a tool they are familiar with.
Your business data never looked so good!
Here at Business Edge, our senior SQL database consultants are experts when it comes to creating and maintaining
complex, large-scale data warehouses. We use Microsoft Analysis Services and Visual Studio Business Intelligence
to create data cubes that you can connect to and run flexible reports.
Once the cubes are built, you can easily connect to the cube using Microsoft Excel and run reports using pivot tables and
pivot charts. If your users are experienced with Excel, then this will be very familiar for them, and usually winds up being
a quick learning curve.

As you can see above, Excel can be a very powerful reporting tool. And since it is still Excel it is just as easy to use, save, share, print,
or manipulate, or whatever your users need to do with it.
